Tashlich
This work is inspired by the Jewish ritual of the same name. The traditional Tashlich ceremony, performed during the High Holy Days, involves symbolically casting away sins into a body of water, accompanied by a prayer asking for compassion and renewal. The text of the prayer includes verses from the prophet Micah: “You will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.”
I created Tashlich as a personal journal in response to significant events in my life. The video component of the piece traces a journey through pain, cleansing, and transformation. While it draws on the structure and intention of ritual, it is not religious in nature. Instead, the work creates a cathartic experience—one that culminates in a shift in perception and inner renewal.
The music is composed for three cellos, each tuned differently.
