Thin Air
This air is a composition for string quartet and electronics that evokes a walk through the Old City of Jerusalem. As the listener moves sonically through this dense and layered environment, one can hear the Moazin (the Muslim call to prayer), the distant chime of church bells, and at times, cantorial singing and Jewish prayer from nearby synagogues. It explores the coexistence of spiritual and cultural voices in a charged urban space.
The music is built from short, minimal musical materials that are stretched over extended periods of time, creating a sense of suspended motion and deep listening.
